e2 – Media Arts

The ​class explored minimalist graphic design through Adobe Illustrator this week. The students created simplistic architectural illustrations by arranging various shapes in a cohesive manner. Midway through the week, the class was tested on their understanding of the history and development of graphic design through a game of Jeopardy.

Before the break, the e2 class went back in time to a 1920s speakeasy. Each grade 10 impersonated an important historical figure from the time period. e2 – Career Fair

The grade 10s took part in a networking simulation, chatting with parent volunteers who work in a variety of fields in an environment like a job fair. Thank you so much to all of our parent volunteers who helped our students practice their networking skills!

e1 – Skills

Students had a focus on the important skills of teamwork and positive communication this week by working in groups to build the best jujube model.  Afterwards, they reflected on what worked well in their groups and how they could improve their communication for future!

AWOL – Dreamworks Animation Exhibit

The latest AWOL outing involved a trip to the Dreamworks animation exhibit at the Museum of History. Students learned about the intricate process behind the creation of an animated feature film. They even had the opportunity to interact with some of the tools used by professional animators!

e2 – Integrated Arts and Papier-Mâché

The students are constructing their own papier-mâché masks which they will use for their “character monologue” assignment. Our students presented photos (like the one below) from their portfolio submissions. There was some truly fantastic work presented in class. The media arts class will be displaying their work in the form of a photo showcase that will run at the Element the week of December 18th. Stay tuned for more details!

e1 – Humanities

Students started Session 3 on the topic of sustainability and were introduced to their new independent research project.  Students had the chance to calculate their own ecological footprints and consider what is currently sustainable and unsustainable about the city of Ottawa!
