What if instead of just picking up litter, we addressed the root causes of littering in our community? This week, students used a brand new app called Litterati to do just that. The app uses hashtags and GIS technology to keep track of the types and locations of litter across the world. The students took photographs of litter around Lansdowne, uploaded them to the app, and disposed of them properly. By doing so, they explored a real-world application of the GIS technologies they have studied in Grade 9 Geography. They are now looking through their data to identify trends and think about how urban planning could be used to limit litter in The Glebe.
